Pathways to Choose After High School

In India, after completing 10th standard, students can choose from various streams of education for their higher secondary education.  The three primary streams are:

1.Science

This stream is for students interested in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and Computer Science.

It opens up opportunities for engineering, medical, and other science-related careers.

Common combinations include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) or Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB).

2.Commerce

This stream is suitable for students interested in subjects like Accountancy, Economics, Business Studies, and Mathematics.

It leads to careers in commerce, business, finance, and related fields.

Common combinations include Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, and Mathematics.

3.Arts (Humanities)

This stream is for students interested in subjects like History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, English, and various languages.

It provides a foundation for careers in fields such as literature, humanities, social sciences, and the arts.

Apart from these three main streams, some schools may also offer interdisciplinary or vocational streams. Additionally, students may have the option to choose subjects from different streams based on their interests and career goals.  It’s essential for students to carefully consider their aptitude and interests when selecting a stream for their higher secondary education.
