Advanced Levels
Structure:
AS Levels are usually taken in the first year of post-16 education (grade 12 or year 1 of the A Level course). They are standalone qualifications that can be taken as a precursor to full A Levels or as qualifications in their own right.
A Levels are typically taken over two years (grades 12 and 13 or years 1 and 2 of post-16 education). Students usually study fewer subjects at the A Level stage, focusing on their chosen areas of specialization.
Assessment:
Assessment in AS and A Levels is primarily based on written examinations, which are usually taken at the end of the course.
Examinations may include multiple-choice questions, essay-style questions, problem-solving tasks, and practical assessments, depending on the subject.
Assessment criteria are designed to measure students’ knowledge, understanding, analysis, evaluation, and application of concepts and principles.
